We’ve read it a hundred times! Not in the restricted section. Our November READING THE RESTRICTED SECTION crate was inspired by books that have been banned or labeled problematic. With the growth of the “call out culture” as named by the New York Times, we felt this box was needed to highlight important works of fiction that have helped shape our reading culture. -Fandoms include banned or challenged books, such as: Harry Potter, Twilight, The Handmaid’s Tale, and more. -Our book of the month had a rocky start in the publishing industry. After her book faced early criticism, debut author Amélie Wen Zhao made the decision to pull her book, BLOOD HEIR. We are overjoyed that she has decided to move forward with publication after seeking the advice of many culture and sensitivity experts, and hearing the book community’s pleas for its release. Her dark retelling of the Anastasia legend is unique to her cultural perspective and we believe her words deserve to be shared.
